California Dreamin’
Richard Wruth wanted to bring surf culture to a town already familiar with another kind of outdoor adventure: skiing. Knowing there was a local market for brands like Roxy, DC, Fox, Quiksilver, Volcom and Hurley; Richard opened California Dreamin’ a decade ago, fulfilling his own entrepreneurial dreams.
Richard is grateful for the opportunity his fellow Vanderhoof residents have given him to succeed in his home town. He notes that locals have been supportive of his business; so much so, in fact, that he is looking to expand his product line to include children’s clothing for ages 5 to 11.

Meet Richard Wruth
Richard Wruth, owner of California Dreamin', wanted to dispel the notion that you have to go to leave Vanderhoof to find fashionable clothing. He opened California Dreamin' a decade ago as living proof that the big cities don't have the corner on the fashion market. With surf-culture brand names and competitive prices, Richard is outfitting a modern generation of Vanderhoof residents.
One of the things Richard enjoys about being a business owner is the flexibility that he has with the hours that he works. It allows him to pitch in with some of the causes that are close to his heart, including Vanderhoof Children's Theatre and the Vanderhoof Fall Fair.
Richard is a lifetime Vanderhoof resident and built his business in the community because he believes that the town's future is bright. He expects that his family-owned and operated business will be around for years and feels confident that locals will continue to support him and his fellow small town business owners.
