Meet Ann McKirdy-Carson & Gordon Carson
Meet Ann McKirdy-Carson & Gordon Carson
Ann McKirdy-Carson grew up in Valemount and has always had a deep appreciation for the mountains. They were, and continue to be an extension of her home, jutting upward straight out of her familiar back yard. Owning a back-country cabin was a long time dream, but she was able to experience the quiet serenity of a mountain night long before the cabin was brought to fruition. Early camping trips were always in close observance of nature with little more than a sleeping bag and a billy can to accommodate her. As Ann developed a presence on McKirdy mountain she enjoyed the modest luxury of a lean-to (of which the remnants still mark the original camp) and later, a wall tent from where she spent the summers grazing her sheep. Ann's husband Gordon helped her with her final upgrade, producing Hermit Thrush Cabin. It was built with an artistic eye, a love of nature, and some practical knowledge for good uses of small spaces.
