My Mountain Coop, Shames Mountain
Shames Mountain is all about adventure. Surrounded by pristine wilderness 35km west of Terrace, Shames Mountain is a majestic place that invigorates the senses. Inciting a real thirst for thrill, the mountain hauls snow-lovers alike up the hill via a double chair lift, one t-bar and a handle tow. This community-operated ski hill features 1,600 vertical feet throughout 28 runs with a variety of options for all skill levels, including 7,800 acres of backcountry and natural glades for an elevated experience.
Known as the perfect ski destination for the entire family, Shames boasts a family room for caregivers with young children, a retail/rental store, lockers, dining area, cafe, bar and so much more! Galloway’s Mountain Bar is the go-to gathering space for all the anticipated celebrations and special events, and with a bumping live music scene, this establishment tops the charts for entertainment in the region. Pandhandler Cafe whips up a mean selection of classic lodge eats, comfort meals and fresh fare to suit a variety of tastebuds hitting the slopes. Enjoy the affordable food, reasonable lift tickets and season passes, fun vibe and flowy runs- Shames Mountain has it all!

My Mountain Co-op took the reigns of a massive community legacy. In order to ensure the future survival of Terrace's beloved Shames Mountain, the non-profit group had to step in and muster up the funds to purchase the hill when the previous owners were looking to retire. Between corporate donations, membership shares, fundraising efforts and an overwhelming support from the community, Shames Mountain was successfuly purchased in 2013 by My Mountain Co-op, making the venture Canada’s first non-profit community service ski co-operative. Through the non-profit, co-operative model, My Mountain Co-op is able to keep fees at an economical cost to users. The society's business vision is guided by four mission cornerstones, each imperative to the successes of the hill: 1. Affordability 2. Sustainability 3. Collaborative 4. Innovative. If you'd like to become part of the Shames initiative, visit the My Mountain Co-op website for more information.
