Benson Optical started out as a small finishing laboratory in 1981. It soon became apparent that optical services were a great need in the Terrace region and so Benson Optical expanded in 1985, becoming a full-service lab and optical dispensary. Today, more than thirty years later, it is still operated by its original owners who are dedicated to a tradition of family-oriented service and high-quality eyewear and eye care products, including prescription glasses and sunglasses, non-prescription sunglasses, safety glasses and clip-ons. Guests will also find a range of eyewear and care accessories like cleaners.
Benson Optical is a member of the Terrace Chamber of Commerce and the Terrace Downtown Improvement Area.

Meet Brad & Carolyn Benson
Meet Brad & Carolyn Benson
Brad and Carolyn Benson have helped a lot of locals see more clearly over the decades. In fact, they've been in business for so long that some of their earliest clients are now bringing in their own children for eyewear. Brad and Carolyn have felt privileged to watch locals grow up and enjoy getting to know their customers personally when they come into the store. Those relationships are very important when you live in a smaller community, says the couple. Friends and neighbours are always willing to lend a hand when it's needed and to look out for and care for each other, creating a sense of security and safety that most big cities do not have. "We appreciate the small town atmosphere," Brad says.
Brad and Carolyn both have entrepreneurial spirits as well as a passion for their community. They started their business because it filled a need in the market and the business has grown steadily since then. Though it has its challenges, business ownership has also met their need and desire to stretch themselves professionally, try new things and adopt new technologies as they become available. They are deeply grateful to their loyal customers who have helped them remain successful and viable throughout the years. Their support has made it possible for local dollars to stay within the community. They also note that there are many other valuable and innovative independent businesses that contribute to Terrace's quality of life and culture. Some of their favourites include Gemma's, Cafenara and Misty River Books.
The scenic beauty and diversity of nature also contribute greatly to the quality of life in Terrace. There are many ways to enjoy the outdoors without having to go very far, including Ferry Island. "Spending an afternoon there feels like you've had a holiday," says Carolyn.
