Meet Thomas Camus

Meet Thomas Camus

After spending his years in larger cities around Europe, Thomas Camus was looking for a change. Three years ago, he made the journey to start his new Canadian chapter in Smithers.

Thomas originally started working as an electrician at the Bruce Jack Mine but when the industry began to slow, he was in a position to connect to a career a little deeper within himself. With extra support and amazing encouragement from his new community, the entrepreneur was able to shift his focus towards his photography.

For Thomas, being an entrepreneur means being in control of his own destiny but more than that, Thomas feels a need to be involved in the life of his new home and a part of its development. A real actor in his community, you’ll often find him cheerfully interacting with other locals and business owners.

“I love Smithers,” says the photographer. “People are so friendly here. Life is peaceful and nature is beautiful. Smithers is the perfect place for me to take pictures of wildlife and amazing scenery. For the first time in my life, I can say I really feel at home."

With gorgeous natural surroundings and beautiful colours regardless of the season, Smithers is a photographers paradise, “I have travelled around the world and for me, Smithers is the best place that exists on earth,” says Thomas.

Although admittedly still relatively new in the business community, Thomas feels amazing support from his new Canadian hometown and believes the local businesses and the local economy within Smithers are both doing well. “People really support local business here. It really pulls on my heartstrings to see all the beautiful and surprising new things that we continue to get in our shops.”
