Cooks Jewellers

Apparel & Accessories-Weddings

For almost 100 years, Cooks Jewellers has been serving the community of Prince Rupert with high-quality jewellery and jewellery repairs. First established by and named for the Heilbroner family, the store was sold to the Cook family in the 1940’s and underwent a name change. Though it is no longer operated by the Cook family, it remains a family-owned-and-operated business, one of Prince Rupert’s most enduring. Cooks Jewellers has developed a reputation for impeccable standards of personalized customer service and precision work. It proudly specializes in Canadian diamonds from Canadian Rocks Diamonds and Maple Leaf Diamonds, precision Swiss watches from Tissot and fine gold jewellery. Cook’s Jewellers also carries a beautiful selection of Swarovski collectibles. Cooks Jewellers boasts state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including the region’s only laser welder. However, Cooks is perhaps best known for its high standards of excellence in customer service and recognized by the local community with numerous People’s Choice and Reader’s Choice Awards for customer service.

Meet Rick McChesney & Robert McMeekin

Meet Rick McChesney & Robert McMeekin

Rick McChesney worked at Cook Jewellers after school in high school. After graduating, he went to work as a commercial fisherman, and during the off-season he would come back to work at the jewellery store. After six years on boats, Rick was ready for a change, and it seemed only natural that he take over the jewellery business that he loved and knew so well.

Fast forward a few years to a busy Christmas shopping season. Rick needed some extra help in the store, and his friend Robert McMeekin had just closed his electronics business, so Rick asked him to help out for a couple of months. He never ended up leaving, and eventually became a business partner. They have since opened stores in Terrace and Kitimat.

Both Rick and Robert are third generation Prince Ruperites, and both have raised their own families here. With deep roots and a lifelong local history, they know many residents, if not by name at least by face. It is one of the things Rick most enjoys about living and doing business here. He and Robert set high standards when it comes to customer service, and knowing the locals allows them to better personalize the service that they provide. They believe they owe it to the community that has been so generous to them throughout the years. Everything about it, from the wonderful, caring people to the unbeatable scenery to the many communities, cultural and sporting activities available here make Prince Rupert a place like no other to live and work.
