Meet Heather Mahy
Meet Heather Mahy
Heather Mahy opened Prince George's first spa and today, 30 years later it is still one of the very few true European-style spas in northern BC. Since day one, Heather's philosophy has always been to offer high-quality spa services in an atmosphere that would rival a big city spa. This unwavering commitment has helped her to stay in business for so long, though she is quick to add that her highly capable staff of professional estheticians and knowledgeable retail staff have been an integral part of the business' success. Strict hygiene and cleanliness standards are another part of the success equation, as are the unique products the spa uses in its treatments and sells in its retail section.
Heather is originally from Vancouver but moved to Prince George decades ago to pursue some professional opportunities. One of her earliest career experiences in Prince George was as a make-up artist for a modelling agency. It was one of the things that helped to pave the way for Heather to eventually open up her spa business. Today, more than three decades later, Heather still has an intense passion for her work and her business. She never grows tired of helping people feel better about themselves. You won't find any botox at her spa, either. Heather much prefers to emphasize natural beauty, especially with younger clients. "You get to help clients develop a sense of wholeness and self-esteem in a natural way," she says. "Empowering women is wonderful."
Heather has had many opportunities to move her business out of the downtown core, including some invitations to join up with some upscale hotels, but she has always declined. "I have always had faith in the downtown core," says Heather. She has a deep sense of commitment to making the area a desirable place to shop and do business and loves being a part of the downtown vibe. She notes that she and other business owners work hard to make it a place filled with unique shops and that local businesses are very interdependent on one another to maintain that one-of-a-kind downtown flavour.
