Apparel & Accessories-Family Activites-Sports & Recreation

Chinook Yoga is Prince George’s first dedicated yoga studio. It offers a diverse range of classes to meet the needs of people wanting to connect with themselves and the world around them through learning, practicing and breathing the ancient practice of yoga. Students and yoga devotees can choose from over 40 classes each week, encompassing different styles including hot yoga, flow, core fluidity, Yin, Yin Fusion and Hatha. There are classes dedicated to moms and babies, pregnant women and to those who have never taken a yoga class before or are relatively new to the practice. You can even combine your practice of yoga with giving back by joining in a community class. Suitable for all skill levels, Chinook Yoga’s community classes are by donation with all proceeds benefiting the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Prince George. Chinook Yoga also hosts periodic yoga special events throughout the calendar year, including yoga retreats, workshops and teacher training. Chinook Yoga also carries a variety of yoga wear in the studio.

Meet Jeff Lutes, Carla Wainwright & Jaylene Pfeifer

Business partners and yoga lovers Jeff Lutes, Carla Wainwright and Jaylene Pfeifer did not originally see themselves in the place they are today. All three started their professional lives in other careers. In fact, both Carla and Jeff came to Prince George from other places. Jeff moved here to work in the forestry industry, and Carla was a wildlife biologist. Carla was also a yoga fan, and she would eventually become a certified instructor. It lead her to open Chinook Yoga in 2000, Prince George's first dedicated yoga studio. Jeff and Jaylene joined her as partners in 2011 and together they moved the studio to its current location.

Jeff, Carla and Jaylene get a deep sense of satisfaction and fulfillment from their business. Not only do they get to enjoy the benefits of business ownership, like the freedom to create their own vision, but they also get to indulge their love for yoga regularly. In addition to teaching yoga, they're also devoted to their own personal yoga practice. Jeff also adds that locating the studio in the heart of downtown has been positive, not just for the business partners but for the yoga community and the community at large, too. "It's about being part of the community," Jeff states. "If we weren't here we wouldn't necessarily feel connected to the community. The downtown area is a convergence of a variety of different people from all walks of life that gives us the ability to interact with the community as a whole."

Jeff, Carla and Jaylene lead active lifestyles both inside and outside of the studio. Fortunately, says Jeff, Prince George has a smorgasbord of outdoor activities to participate in during any given season. Hiking, cross country skiing and biking is among their collective favourites. All three are also involved in the arts community in a variety of ways.
