Meet Kim Wogberg
Meet Kim Wogberg
Kim Wogberg was drawn to the ancient practice of soap making, partly for the sheer artistry of it and partly out of a desire to use products not manufactured with chemicals. After beginning to use her own creations, Kim noticed an immediate change "When I started making soap I couldn't believe how just removing the chemicals we put on our skin and replacing them with something natural and basic could make such a big difference," she says. It was such a powerful experience that she couldn't help wanting to share that with others. It is ultimately why she went into business.
For Kim, the biggest reward is the thanks she receives from the people who use her products. "I love it when someone tells me that my soap cleared up the babies eczema or helped their cousin's acne. It makes me feel like I am helping them," says Kim.
Being a small business owner in a small community has some distinct advantages that Kim really appreciates. She gets to interact directly with her customers, who are also her friends and neighbours in town. She has the freedom to listen to their ideas and suggestions and to act on them, creating new products without any limitations. "I feel a real connection to my customers and I love to help them solve skin care problems such as eczema or acne with my products," she says.
Kim attributes the ability to connect with her customers on a personal level to the friendly, small town atmosphere. It is conducive to impromptu sidewalk conversations, or a friendly wave and a hello. Kim likes that she knows or is familiar with most everyone she bumps into on the street. Says Kim, "I love the sense of community, the feeling that we are all in the same boat, that we all belong to some exclusive club because we live here." After all, there is much to enjoy about Cariboo living in addition to the people: the gorgeous landscape with its expansive outdoors and the ability to enjoy it in so many different ways and in every season. "It is beautiful here," she says.
