Meet Terry Smeader & Sujitra Pornprasitt
There is just something about doing business in a small town that can't rival big city business, says Terry Smeader. When you live and work in a small town, it makes it easier to get to know your customers on a first-name basis. Terry and his wife, Sujitra Pornprasitt know that customers always appreciate being greeted by name when they walk into their shop. "It is very satisfying to meet and remember who your customers are," says Terry. That same friendliness carries over to the sidewalks downtown and across backyard fences where people are apt to say hi or stop and chat because faces are familiar and life is unhurried here.
Terry and Sujitra have been operating Sujitra’s Suds and Seams in Kitimat since 1996. They're proud of the fact that they've been able to remain viable and successful for so long, in spite of some slow economic periods and many changes to the northern business climate. The couple has always focused strongly on service, including doing last-minute, emergency overnight cleaning jobs for customers. It's just part of doing business, and it is a level of service that they are happy to provide out of gratitude to the loyal patrons who have helped them to build their business over the decades.
Terry grew up in Kitimat and Sujitra embraced it as her new home when she arrived. Both appreciate the rich, full life it offers, with its wonderful people and expansive outdoor playground. The sunshine and the mountain views simply cannot be beaten, according to Terry. "When it is sunny here there is a certain beautiful peacefulness that is hard to explain and can only be experienced," he says.
