Meet Shirley Belisle
Shirley has lived in the Kispiox Valley for 35 years and was excited to create something for her hometown when the property was listed. "I thought to myself, now wouldn't that make the perfect coffee shop?" Knowing everyone who comes through her door and making her own rules are a big part of why Shirley enjoys being her own boss.
The two things Shirley loves most about living in New Hazelton are the surrounding nature and its residents. "I love the people here and I love to be outdoors," she says. “I frequent our trails for running and walking. They are never crowded, they are very peaceful and relaxing. I especially like Station Creek."
"MacDonald's store is right next to us," notes the Shirley. "It’s a really good thing to have their shop right across the street from my café. It’s a favourite place of mine as are the Skeena Bakery, Yoga Shack, and Mercedes Beans."
"I’m not sure a person will ever get rich by having a small business here, but you can make a decent living. It can be a hard job to keep a business viable in a small town but depending on your product and if you have tenacity, you can make it work!"
