Meet Angela Smith, RM
One of the most wonderful aspects of living in a small community is the ability to keep in touch with fellow residents. This is especially meaningful for Angela Smith, who tends to develop strong bonds with the women that she works with and provides care for. Not only that, but chances are strong that she'll run into those women and their babies around town. "I love watching the babies I caught growing up," says Angela.
Angela is a mom herself with two grown children. It was her own birth experiences that initially sparked her interest in the practice of midwifery and the idea of woman-centred prenatal care and delivery. It was when her children were older that she decided to go back to school to train to be a registered midwife. She graduated from her program in 2013 and knew that there was no other place she would rather practice than in her home town.
Angela feels grateful to be able to offer women in the Hazeltons region another option for prenatal care and delivery close to home. Pregnancy and birth are profoundly life-changing experiences, and being able to help improve those experiences for clients is satisfying and fulfilling for Angela. Plus, the bond that develops between her and her clients makes her job rewarding.
