The mandate of the Granisle Lions Club is to help support and improve local communities through service projects and fundraising for local and national projects.

The Granisle Lions Club has been active in the community for many years. It has funded numerous local programs throughout its existence as well as started many of its own projects all designed to make Granisle a better community for everyone. The Granisle Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, and everyone is welcome to participate, volunteer or become a member.

Meet The Granisle Lions Club Members

The Granisle Lions Club is a group of just over a dozen members who work hard all year long to help make Granisle the amazing and diverse community that it is. One way it does this is by partnering with other local community groups, clubs and schools for a monthly luncheon. Participating groups take turns cooking for and hosting the luncheon, and when it's the Lions Club's turn, usually about every three to four months, the group cooks everything from scratch. The luncheons are a practical way, says local club Vice-President Jacque Johnston, to work together and support one another's efforts, since everyone has a similar desire: to see Granisle strengthened and make it a welcoming community.

The Granisle Lions Club hosts, sponsors and supports many events and fundraisers throughout the course of each year. One of the community's favourites is the annual "Purina" Walk for Guide Dogs. The Granisle Lions Club joins with Lions Clubs from across Canada to raise money for guide dog training, and the local club has even sponsored several dogs that have gone through this training. The Guide Dog Program is free to those in need.

Many of the other fundraising events held by the Granisle Lions Club directly benefit the community and its residents. Some of their most popular events include the annual Pancake Breakfast and Christmas Hamper raffle. The club also collects beverage containers, eyeglasses, hearing aids and various batteries throughout the year. All monies raised from the club's various events go to fund things their Helping Hands Program, purchasing LifeLines (a personal emergency alert system) for seniors, creating Christmas hampers for needy families and sending children to summer camp. The Lions Club offers various medical equipment for use as needed to residents. The club also operates a Lions apartment building and a Lions campground in Granisle.
