Fraser Lake Building Supplies

Rob King was a logger and a forestry consultant in his previous life, but the demanding hours and the grueling work started to take a toll on him. So a few years ago he began to explore the idea of starting or buying a business. He sat down with his accountant, who just happened to also be the accountant for Fraser Lake Building Supplies. She told him the business was for sale, and that he might be a good fit for it. One thing lead to another, and in 2011 Rob found himself the new owner of Fraser Lake Building Supplies, a store that has been in the community since 1976.

Rob is thrilled with his new business, which has been a refreshing and welcome change of pace in his life. Rob and his wife live in Burns Lake, and Rob commutes to the store five to six days per week. Rob loves both Burns Lake and Fraser Lake, noting that the two communities are closely tied and full of wonderful, friendly people. In fact, says Rob, it is the people that make his job fun. "I like being able to know my customers personally." He also delights in helping them find the things that they need for their projects and turning their plans and dreams into reality.

Entrepreneurship agrees with Rob, who likes being independent and having the ability to set his own goals. He is excited about the future for small business in Fraser Lake, noting that it is a community that has limitless potential, thanks to its location, its space and all of the recreational opportunities that are right on people's doorstep. Though Rob keeps very busy running the store, he tries to get out and drop a fishing line into the nearest river or lake whenever he's able.
