Meet Marilyn Mueller
Marilyn loves living in Fort St. John for its lack of traffic, the many choices for outdoor activities, the frequent beautiful sunsets and the ease of access to everything and everyone. "Living in a small town can make you sense that you are not a stranger," said Marilyn, "that a lot of people know your name." Putting down roots in the community means, "you go to local events, you shop, you join clubs or sports, you start becoming a part of things, especially if you own a business, it seems inevitable," said Marilyn, "the longer you are in that small town the more a part of it, you become."
Marilyn started Olio's Pizzeria in 2008 and values the freedom of choice that comes with being "the captain of my ship, not a passenger." Marilyn wanted to shape her own life and express her creativity through her food offerings, marketing and design. She is proud that her business has survived this long in a franchise-competitive market and that she creates employment for fourteen people. Marilyn is proud of her staff and says they are, "a great bunch of people."
Marilyn and her staff are happy with their consistently good product that keeps loyal customers returning and keeps the business operating. "Small towns usually have a lot of small local businesses that supports the local community and in return, the community supports the small business," said Marilyn, "this creates alliances within the community reinforcing the concept of buying local and supporting local." Marilyn feels this support in Fort St. John and appreciates being able to provide a product that people love and appreciate.
