Meet Jesse Lambert
Jesse Lambert taking after his family embodies the entrepreneurial spirit. He named the business after his grandfather, a role model of Jesse's who has earned a prominent reputation in town. Jesse resembles his grandfather by taking pride in his work, he started JD Knives to combine his skill and talents with his love of metalworking. “Working with steel has always been a passion of mine, I became an entrepreneur because I want to wake up in the morning and do what I love to do. I love being able to come to my shop and create something out of nothing to exact specifications." Jesse admits he loves seeing customers faces when they have received their product and it is everything they had asked for.
A hometown boy, Jesse likes the camaraderie and beauty that Fort St. John possesses. He is proud to build off the foundation of his family name. “I grew up here, my family is from here. My grandfather made his name here and I'm proud to stay in Fort saint John to carry on his legacy. People take care of each other in a small town. When hardship strikes, we band together as a community," he states. “In Fort St. John we have the best of both worlds. This is God's Country! I don't have to go far to find a breathtaking view, or acquire material to supply my growing business.”
Jesse knows the importance of shopping local, and shops at other businesses including Imagine That Logo Shop and Arctech Welding & Machining. He is also environmentally conscious and says the local thrift stores can be a great resource to obtain material to re-purpose. As a role model to the younger generation, Jesse is proud to connect with a local education institution. “The high school is home to an amazing machine shop. They are currently educating some very ambitious students, a couple of which are directly involved in learning here at JD Knives and Custom Works,” he reveals.“The economy has taken a bit of a downturn, and yet so many of the small businesses in this town are still going strong. That says a lot about the people in this community. I don't worry about the future for small businesses in Fort St. John. I believe our businesses can be whatever we make them to be.”
Jesse's grandfather may have been who introduced the family name to the town, but it is Jesse's continued dedication to creating innovative products that have made him the successful craftsman that he is today. “I'm proud of how far we've come; building a business from the ground up is not for the faint of heart, but seeing the result of all our labour inspires me to reach higher than before.”
