Cheryl Heselwood grew up in Dawson Creek and wanted to do something that would not only provide for her family but would be an investment in the community that she loved. So, along with her husband Mark, she partnered with good friends Janine Cumberland and Eugene Schmidt to come up with a business plan that would help to fill a niche and a need in Dawson Creek. "We wanted to be able to offer another place for people to buy clothing without having to travel an hour or more to shop for good quality clothing," Cheryl says. Janine echoes that, noting that being able to meet a specific need within the community comes with a deep sense of satisfaction, even in spite of all of the challenges that come with operating a small business.

Both Janine and Cheryl agree that the community has been extremely supportive of the business since it opened in 2014. "We have met some really great people," Cheryl notes. In a place like Dawson Creek, Janine adds, it is easy to get to know your customers because they are also your neighbours and fellow business owners, and it makes doing business more personal and rewarding.

Mark, Cheryl, Janine and Eugene are all outdoors lovers, and that gives them one more reason to love Dawson Creek. The town and its vast expanse of surrounding outdoor areas provide many opportunities to pursue their favourite outdoor activities like golfing, camping and quadding. Rounding out life in Dawson Creek is the abundance of clubs and cultural activities to participate in. "Dawson Creek is a land of opportunity," Janine notes, and with fewer and fewer vacancies in the downtown business core, it appears as though the economy is on its way in a positive direction, a fact that will benefit the entire community.
