Meet Denise Urness
Denise Urness began toying with the idea of business ownership during childhood. She even wrote an essay at age 15 as part of a contest to attend a summer business camp. She won, and it changed her life. As she entered adulthood and became a mother, the idea of starting a business that could accommodate the needs of her two children was appealing. With a talent for taking beautiful pictures, a photography business seemed the perfect choice. Appleseed began in 2009 and Denise uses her intuition and insight as a mom to take her stunning baby pictures. "I love the freedom to choose my family first, artistic freedom, the freedom to bring joy to others and the freedom of choosing my own hours," says Denise.
Dawson Creek is an ideal place to raise a family. It has a "personality" of its own, one that is shaped by the kind, friendly people who live here, its eclectic little shops (like Denise's favourite, the Olde Creek Store) and the familiarity that breeds a sense of comfort. Plus, Denise notes, "it's full of history. There is no other place she would call 'home.'"
The lines between work and play blur somewhat for Denise. Photography is her passion, both a job and a hobby. She is always taking pictures of something just for fun. Family is the most important thing in Denise's life, though. She spends as much time with her kids as she can, time that often includes the family pets, too.
