TLC Community Thrift Shop and Training Centre

Apparel & Accessories-Arts-Children & Child Care

TLC Community Thrift Shop and Training Centre is a community thrift store carrying quality used clothing and household items. It is operated by the TLC Society, a non-profit organization whose mission is to make low-cost used goods and necessities available to the community while also providing work skills and job training for community members. It also provides basic essentials to individuals and families in need. The TLC Community Thrift Shop and Training Centre is completely self-sustaining, relying on sales from its shop for the ongoing cost of operation. In fact, it even gives back by donating to other local non-profits such as schools, churches and hospitals. TLC Community Thrift Shop and Training Centre promotes care for the earth by encouraging community members to donate used goods instead of sending them to the landfill. All clothing that comes in is washed before selling by the store’s staff and volunteers.

Meet The TLC Society, Leo Sabulsky

The TLC Community Thrift Shop and Training Centre was founded by a group of concerned local citizens responding to a local need. They envisioned a place where locals could purchase affordable items like clothing, furniture, toys and home decorative items. In serving the need for low-cost goods, it would also be providing a second life for quality, previously-owned items and keeping things from being thrown away. The society also envisioned a place where people who needed job skills could gain experience.

At any given time the shop may have a variety of people working and training in the store, including people with disabilities or those who have served prison sentences and want to transition back into the work force. Supervisor Leo Sabulsky are extremely proud of all of the staff members past and present who have served the needs of the store and the community so faithfully. They're also grateful to all of the volunteers who do everything from wash the donated clothing that comes in to serve on the society board.

Most of all, Leo is thankful for the community of Chetwynd. They have supported the thrift shop for more than 30 years, both through donations and by shopping there. The store is completely self-sustaining and receives no outside subsidies. This, they know, is only possible because of the people of Chetwynd.
