Meet Ashely Fontaine & Kendra Kraft

Meet Ashely Fontaine & Kendra Kraft

Ashely Fontaine was on maternity leave from her regular job. She wanted to find a way to bring in some extra money which would also work around her new baby's schedule and needs. She approached her best friend of two decades, Kendra Kraft, and the two began making natural candles and bath salts and selling them. That was in 2014, and now when they look back they realize just how much they have learned since then. "We started with ten scents and now we are up to about 50," says Ashely. Their dream and goal is to grow the business to the place where they are able to stay at home full-time and raise their children.

Kendra, who lives in Kelowna and is working to promote the brand there, and Ashely have received tremendous support for the business from the community. "It's huge," Ashely notes. This sense of support is felt not just in a business setting, but throughout community life in general. "Everyone watches out for everyone else," Ashely says. "When there is a crisis the community, everyone pulls together to help out." It makes it a safe and secure place to raise a family.

Kendra and Ashely have gotten to know many of the local artisans since starting their business. They are proud of the prolific talent and skill that they see in Chetwynd. "We have everything from musicians, artists, photographers and some who can create just about anything with their hands," says Ashely. "It makes me very proud to be a Chetwynd-ite."
