Amazing Space Studio and Gallery
Award-winning and internationally-recognized artists Bill Horne and Claire Kujundzic live, produce and exhibit their art in Wells and beyond, including Spain, Hungary and Japan. Amazing Space Studio and Gallery is housed inside the former Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Both of them work in a variety of media and styles, including painting and original prints. Visitors will also find an eclectic selection of gifts including cards, fridge magnets, and hand silk screened Wells T-shirts, as well as organic espresso.
Their studio also offers professional graphic services such as logo and book design. Bill and Claire are members of Canadian Artists Representation/le front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) and the CARFAC Copyright Collective. Bill was the 2013 recipient of the CARFAC National Visual Arts Advocacy Award and an Award of Excellence in the 2019 Tokyo International Screen Print Biennale; he has taught at Vancouver’s Native Education Centre and Nicaragua’s National School of Art. Claire was the 2002 recipient of the Today’s Woman Contribution to the Arts Award, BC Interior, North & Yukon and the Best Illustration of the Year Award from Canadian Association of Labour Media in 1997. She has lived in other small BC towns including Nelson, Salmon Arm and Summerland.

Meet Bill Horne & Claire Kujundzic
One of the things Bill and Claire most enjoy about being professional artists with a gallery of their own is the opportunity to meet people who visit the area from all over the world. They also feel fortunate to have studio and living space in the 3700 square foot heritage building that they have painstakingly renovated over two decades. “We never know who is going to walk through our doors,” says Claire, “and we’ve made some wonderful friends.” The fact that they speak Spanish, some French and Basque, and a few German words adds an international atmosphere to their gallery.
The two artists are distinctly dedicated in their creative approach. “We produce imagery about where we are and what’s going on around us – art made from scratch, with integrity, spirit and wit,” says Bill. “In an era of globalization when so many cultural products are imported, this is rare.” They feel proud and privileged to be able to share their work and process with the public.
Bill and Claire enjoy their community’s proximity to world-class outdoor recreation and its affordability, as well as its visual and performing arts assets. This combination enhances the desirability of Wells as a place to live and work.
Wellsians have repeatedly pulled together over the years when there has been a pressing need or common cause concerning a local resident or an important facility. For example, in 2002 the elementary school was set for closure until Wells residents mobilized to keep it open. This is one of the things that Bill and Claire say sets their town apart as a special place.
When their building suffered a flood in 2005, damaging the ground floor and many belongings, the couple was devastated. However, many people pitched in to help clean up and repair the destruction, and Claire and Bill will always be grateful for the love and help that they received.
