Meet Angela Laird Rankin

Meet Angela Laird Rankin

Angela (centre) grew up in Williams Lake, left the community to attend university and follow pursuits elsewhere for several years. Williams Lake kept calling her back, and she knew in her heart that this community would always be home. When it came time for her parents, Barry and Joanne, who started The Open book in 1983, to retire after 20 years, Angela bought the business.

Entrepreneurship is definitely in Angela’s genes. She thoroughly enjoys the diversity of the work that is involved in running a book store, noting that every day is a little bit different. “I can spend a day engaging with customers, doing paperwork, excitedly ordering the newest titles, or thinking about how to improve my business,” says Angela. For Angela, being able to have a flexible career is important, and business ownership, though challenging, has given her the flexibility and freedom that she craves. She also adds that she is proud of and grateful to her amazing staff who have helped to make the business successful.

Angela and her husband, Jeff, are now raising their own daughter in the community that they both grew up in and have long-loved for its rich and wonderful history and culture. Angela enjoys living in a town with such caring and friendly people. She also appreciates the beauty of nature that surrounds Williams Lake. During the summer you will probably find Angela enjoying the outdoors from the vantage point of her yard and garden when she isn't working, or playing with her daughter. And in her free time, of course, she also loves to read.
