Meet Sylvia Rashbrook
When you live in Williams Lake, says travel agent and All-Ways Travel owner Sylvia Rashbrook, everyone's lives connect and cross over in many different ways. Sylvia's many clients over the years have also played other roles in her day-to-day life. "We shop at the same stores, go to the same churches and our children attended the same schools," notes Sylvia. "Our attitudes reflect the down-to-earth awareness of the neighbours and their lives. The culture of the small town means that we help each other out in time of need. We are proud of each other's achievements." As such, it adds a certain kind of depth to doing business that is not present in many big city businesses. "It is all amazing when we become a part of the small town attitude within the international travel scene. It is fascinating and rewarding as well," Sylvia says.
Sylvia and her husband moved to Williams Lake to be close to their daughter and her family after her daughter started a local medical practice. It is a move that they have never regretted. "We love this town," Sylvia says. "It seemed like the perfect match for us."
When the opportunity arose for the Rashbrooks to purchase their own small business, they jumped in wholeheartedly. Sylvia had always wanted to own her own business, and though learning about the travel and tourism industry was a new challenge, it was one that Sylvia welcomed. "It was a huge learning curve for me but well worth it," says Sylvia. She quickly came to love the passion and independence of owning a business. She also feels privileged to be able to provide a living for the people who work for her. "They are the backbone of the company," she declares.
