Meet Richard & Jody Grange
Proud inhabitants of Haida Gwaii, Rick and Jody are happy that their property can support the charming place they call home. They feel it is everyone's responsibility to encourage our growth and at the same time protect our natural resources.
“We support local Salmon Enhancement and Friends of the Yakoon, we donate fish and staples to the elders in Old Massett Village, supply the local schools with eggs for the breakfast program and hire only locals to work in our organic gardens.Rick and Jody love Haida Gwaii and have always given to the community; it's everyone's duty," they exclaim.
"To me, just seeing people appreciate what we have created on the beach and leaving Haida Gwaii with an exceptional experience," says Rick on his favorite part of owning Carriage House. "We want our guests to encourage others to visit our beautiful island and the cultural uniqueness it has to offer."
There’s just something about Haida Gwaii that can’t be explained but Jody says its starts from three main things. “The beauty of the old forest, the wildlife and the people. Living in a small town makes relationships deeper, my friends here are more like my family."
"There are also excellent business owners here. I particularly frequent The Ground Gallery & Coffee Shop, where the Barista always has a smile and their pumpkin muffins are a sell out every day."
The future looks promising for business owners in Masset. "I feel positive about small business beginnings and also the attention Haida Gwaii has been receiving in the media," Jody explains. "I am delighted that our downtown is becoming more attractive, especially with the addition of our colourful murals."
