Meet Simone Mattner
Simone Mattner has a passion for her community, and operating a business that helps to benefit the community and the local region was something that was important to her. When she started Yellow Cedar Lodge in 2006 on her beautiful property on the Skeena River, she wanted to offer visitors to the area excellent service and an authentic taste of local culture.
Part of her commitment to the community as well as to guests is to offer local products, particularly in the lodge's dining room. Simone appreciates being able to know personally the vendors and growers from whom she buys food that is served, something that is easy to do in a small, friendly town like Terrace. Additionally, the dining room is a member of the Ocean Wise program, meaning that all seafood that is served is approved as ocean-friendly and harvested in a sustainable manner.
Besides the people who live here, another thing that Simone appreciates about Terrace is the quality of life that it provides. The casual pace and minimal traffic make life here less hectic than in a big city and its access to nature and recreation also make it a desirable place to live. Outdoor activities are abundant. Head just a few minutes out of town and you'll find an endless number of things to do in nature. Simone enjoys mountain biking on some of Terrace's many trails.
Operating her own business, though busy (especially during the summer), has been a very rewarding experience for Simone. Being able to shape the business and the guest experience according to her own vision and then reap the rewards makes the hard work worthwhile. She is also proud of the competent, hard-working staff who so enjoy working at the lodge that they return summer after summer.
