Meet Linda Louis

Linda Louis has been sewing for years, although she didn't necessarily intend to make a profession out of it. When she first moved to Queen Charlotte more than 25 years ago, she mostly sewed for fun. There were no professional tailors in town, and some groups needed sewing done and knew that Linda sewed. So they asked her to help them out. After that, word travelled and soon other people and groups began calling and asking her to sew for them. Very quickly she had a thriving small business and was able to fill a much-needed niche in Queen Charlotte.

Linda likes to sew, both for work and for fun. Being able to do something she enjoys for a living is a privilege, and the work never gets dull. "Every day is different," she says. "I never know from day to day what new projects I'll be working on." Linda sometimes exhibits and sells her work at craft fairs and other events, but her biggest business-builder on the island has always been word of mouth. Linda is happy to be able to provide a valuable service that people appreciate.

One of the things that Linda most appreciates about life on Haida Gwaii is the peaceful setting that is unique to the area. Linda has lived in larger cities and has a deep appreciation for the beautiful natural surroundings and the quiet pace of life that she now has on Haida Gwaii.
