Meet Jeff, Joe & Brionne Lavoie

Meet Jeff, Joe & Brionne Lavoie

Brothers Jeff and Joe along with cousin Brionne Lavoie grew up on Haida Gwaii and were immersed early into the entrepreneurial spirit of their families. Two generations of Haida Gwaii’s Lavoie families have owned and operated businesses which have included a sawmill, a logging company, a soft drink distribution business, a chain of gas stations with convenience stores, a bottle depot and a produce farm.

Given this background, it didn’t take long for the third generation to take their place at the entrepreneurial table, acquiring the skills needed to successfully run a business. As a youth, Joe operated the bottle depot in Daajing Giids, moving on to study finance and a career in commercial banking while Jeff began providing Internet services to Northern Graham Island. After attending university, Brionne relocated to Alberta where he worked in human resource management.

In 2017, the stars aligned and Jeff and Joe expanded their Internet services to include all of the communities on Graham Island and Sandspit on Moresby Island. Jeff, Joe and Brionne then formed a partnership to purchase the Causeway Convenience building as a base for their business operations and the rest as they say, is history.

Growing up on Haida Gwaii, Jeff, Joe and Brionne have personal experience with its strong sense of community and the way that people help each other. The trio agree that they enjoy doing business on Haida Gwaii because it allows them to build relationships within the community and support local businesses.

The Lavoie's note that the potential for small businesses on Haida Gwaii looks good as tourism increases on the islands. When they are not working Jeff, Joe and Brionne enjoy hiking with their dogs and spending time with friends and family.
