Fukasaku of Prince Rupert

Catering-Food & Beverage-Restaurants

Fukasaku is devoted to authentic BC products and committed to sustainability, locality, and healthy eating. All seafood is caught right here in the Pacific Ocean, and Fukasaku of Prince Rupert is the first sushi restaurant in BC to be 100 percent certified by Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program. All of Fukasaku’s sushi is served with genuine wasabi harvested on Vancouver Island. Guests will find a diverse selection of BC wines, beer (including Wheelhouse Brewing Co. craft beers) and even BC sake. The staff of Fukasaku invites you to this genuine British Columbian sustainable, substantial dining experience in an ambient atmosphere at tables which have been hand-made by a local artist of yellow cedar and featuring a joinery technique. Guests will also enjoy a remarkable view of the ocean from which many of Fukasaku’s ingredients have come.

Meet Dai Fukasaku

Meet Dai Fukasaku

When you operate a restaurant that relies on the ocean for many of its ingredients and dishes, it's good to be close to the ocean. That's not the only reason, though, that Dai Fukasaku chose to locate his business in Prince Rupert. Dai was drawn to the community because of the friendly people who live here. Besides his home town of Tokyo, Japan, Dai has lived in several different cities and communities throughout the US and Canada and says "I have never lived in a friendlier or more nature-oriented town than Prince Rupert." Not only do locals care for their fellow residents, but they are very supportive of their small businesses. This combination of proximity to the sea and great people make it a viable place for a sushi restaurant.

In addition to having a passion for Japanese cuisine, Dai also has a passion for the environment. He wasn't willing to compromise on it when it came to running his restaurant. All of the seafood that he serves comes from local sources and is gathered sustainably. Fukasaku is 100 percent certified by the Vancouver Aquarium Ocean Wise program, which sets out specific and stringent requirements on how seafood should be harvested in order to maintain a healthy fish population and ocean eco-system.

Dai is committed to the quality of the food that he serves. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. "We don't cut corners," he declares. Presentation is also a very important part of every dish he serves, and he considers each plate a work of art and an expression of himself.
