Cowbay Cafe’s Menu, which includes tantalizing appetizers, crisp, bright salads, fresh pastas and stone-oven specialty pizzas, also includes a hand-picked selection of the finest wines from BC, Italy and international locations. Guests can also enjoy a hand-crafted cocktail or beer, including a selection of Prince Rupert’s own Wheelhouse Brewing Company craft beers.

Meet Kristi & John Farrell

Meet Kristi & John Farrell

Kristi and John Farrell have been in the restaurant business in Prince Rupert for several years. They first purchased Opa Sushi in 2005, and have owned and operated Cowbay Cafe since 2013. Kristi and John are self-confessed foodies, and they know that there are hundreds of others like them in Prince Rupert. It's why they ultimately decided to pursue the idea of a second restaurant. "We wanted to add new and different flavours and ingredients to the local food scene," Kristi states. Plus, Prince Rupert is ideally-located in a place with direct and convenient access to so many different foods, both from the land and from the sea. The Farrells take full advantage of this, cooking with and serving local ingredients in the restaurant's dishes.

Naturally, operating two restaurants keeps the couple very busy. Nevertheless, it is a desirable trade-off for being able to have flexibility and control over their work schedules. This allows them to work around what is most important to them: family time. Owning their own business also meets a deeper need for expressing their creativity. They are able to do this with the foods that they serve and with how they operate the business. Providing a quality experience for their customers is extremely important to them. They set high standards, and they are able to follow through with their vision. They are very grateful for their staff who, says Kristi, are supportive of that vision and do an excellent job representing the business.

Kristi and John say that there is much to appreciate about Prince Rupert living. Not only does it have access to amazing, diverse foods, it also has fantastic scenery. "We have the most spectacular sunsets - red, orange, purple. It's different every night," says Kristi. They appreciate that it is such a safe and enriching place to raise a family. They love the vibe, particularly in the downtown area, with its diverse and eclectic independent businesses that give it so much character.
