Meet Shannon Wright
Meet Shannon Wright
Life, and business, have come full circle for Shannon Wright. Shannon grew up in an entrepreneurial household. Her mom was a hairstylist and owned a local salon. Shannon started working for her mom at the salon at the age of 14. After graduation, she went on to complete her hairdressing, esthetics, & barbering and became a licensed educator. Shannon bought the Pepper Tree from her mom in 2006 and her mom helps out when needed.
Shannon is highly committed to both her clients and her staff. One important thing that Shannon learned under her mom was the ideal of treating all people as equals. Shannon continues to make this a key component in the way she operates her business. She strives to make her clients feel special and to meet their individual needs. She also strives to make her salon an inviting workplace for her staff. "I wanted to create an atmosphere where stylists love coming to work and helping their careers thrive," she says. Continuing education is important to Shannon. so she makes sure that her staff is regularly upgrading their skills and learning about new techniques and products that emerge. This, she notes, benefits both the staff as well as the clients.
Shannon was born in Hazelton but raised in Houston. She says that being a Gitxsan Hereditary Chief, her roots are in Prince George. Shannon has lived in Prince George for much of her adult life but it was an experience as a volunteer with Big Sisters that solidified her decision to make it her lifetime home. It gave her a new perspective on her community, its needs and all of the wonderful things that it has to offer. She appreciates that it provides so much in the way of services and amenities and yet remains an affordable place to live and raise a family. Shannon now has a daughter of her own and she loves to spend time with her and take her to some of her favourite local sites, like Fort George Park. Only time will tell if her daughter will one day catch the entrepreneurial bug too.
