Meet Kyle & Deidra Parker
Kyle Parker has been an avid bowler since he was a young child. As he got older, he dreamed of owning his own bowling alley. When the old 5th Avenue Bowladrome went up for sale, Kyle and his wife Deidra knew that this was their chance. They found investors who shared their vision and they bought the business. They made some changes that included renovations and renaming the business Black Diamond Lanes and opened in 2010. Now Kyle gets to bowl whenever he wants (though he's usually spending more of his time making sure that customers are having fun).
A lot of work went into updating the facility, including a complete lighting show system for cosmic bowling, and a modernization of the third floor. However, Deidra and Kyle are passionate about their business, and the effort they put in pays off in many different ways. "Having a vision of what we want to see and putting in the work to get there is rewarding," says Deidra. "Seeing our hard work pay off by increasing sales provides feelings of success." Best of all, they never get tired of the smiles of their customers. Whenever a customer tells them they've had a great time, it validates their dream and their hard work.
While bowling may be a favourite indoor sport, Deidra and Kyle and their family also love outdoor recreation and can often be found skiing in the winter and hiking throughout the rest of the year. The children are involved in a variety of sports that keeps the family busy throughout the week. Deidra also points out that Prince George is a family-oriented community with many activities available to enrich the lives of families who live here.
