Westy For Haida
Haida Gwaii is one of BC’s best kept secrets. The majestic grouping of rugged islands tucked a couple hundred kilometres off the coastline near Prince Rupert has been dubbed the eighth wonder of the world by nature enthusiasts, and with untamed panoramic views and unprecedentedly abundant wildlife populations, it’s not surprising this destination is a place that needs to be seen to believe.
If you’re looking for an adventurous way to explore the islands, West For Haida is the answer to your problem. What better way is there to see Haida Gwaii than in your very own vintage Volkswagen Westfalia! Travel around in style and comfort; your wheels by day become your sleeping quarters by night. This meticulously maintained avocado green Westfalia has all the bells and whistles, including a fully functional kitchen with room enough to stand, fold out couch, tons of storage and a bike hitch. Just hop on the ferry or book your shuttle to Skidegate Ferry Terminal if flying into Sandspit airport- the Westy will be waiting for your arrival.
Book your Haida Gwaii adventures with Westy For Haida today! It’ll be a memorable one!
Meet Kyle May
Meet Kyle May
Having seen the much of the world over the span of eight years, Kyle May and his travel-avid wife were looking to settle wherever their hearts led them. In 2017 the May couple discovered Haida Gwaii and never looked back. “When we came to Haida Gwaii everything just kind of fell into place for us,” laughs the adventurer. “We said this is great, we don't need to go anywhere else!” Some of their favourite pastimes are crab catching and stand-up paddleboarding, in addition to the obvious love of travel and exploration!
Kyle settled into the community of Port Clements, a centrally-located town with vibrant and welcoming residents. Shortly after moving Kyle had the idea to rent out his beloved Volkswagen Westfalia to tourists wanting to explore the area. He enjoys informing visitors of the countless must-see destinations to help make their trip a once in a lifetime experience. The idea of renting his Westfalia has proven to be a tremendous success, allowing for enough funds to fully restore the vehicle and take a trip during the “off-season” down to Mexico. Becoming an entrepreneur in Haida Gwaii has been a seamless process, and according to Kyle it's one of the few places left that still offers such opportunities to those wanting to start up small businesses. “Haida Gwaii is better off with local people meeting local needs,” shares Kyle. “It's like the grounding point for tourism.”
