Meet Mark VanHerd & Linda Hoekstra
Meet Mark VanHerd & Linda Hoekstra
Mark VanHerd and Linda Hoekstra have been common-law partners since 2013 after two separate career paths led them to the same warehouse. Fast-forward to 2018, and they pair decided to dive head first into a business partnership as well. The dynamic duo are recent transplants to the Haida Gwaii area, though they began formulating their entrepreneurial vision well before arriving.
Linda earned her Red Seal certification at the young age of 18, satisfying a natural talent and passion for cooking. She spent decades in the food distribution industry along side her father, while more recently yearning for a return to the grill. A food truck was just the answer they were looking for; the perfect opportunity to kick start their culinary endeavours!
Linda naturally became the creative visionary behind Fork in Port’s delicious menu selections. She is the face of the popular food truck, putting in full-time hours while her partner, Mark, lends a hand after a busy day driving logging trucks. Even though life can be busy at times, the hard-working couple always find time for themselves and their family. They share between them four adult children, and a total of six grandkids, making life all the more exciting. Linda says they thoroughly enjoy exploring the beauty of their island community, and in particular the Tlell area. “It’s like Fern Gully,” laughs the entrepreneur. “And the nice and friendly people makes it feel like home.”
