What better way to end off a day of sightseeing in the mystical, enchanting Haida Gwaii islands than to sleep in one of the island’s most eclectic accommodations? The Blue Bird Guest Bus has taken the bed and breakfast concept to a whole new level, offering one clean, comfortable and inherently unique guest bedroom within the walls of a 78-passenger converted school bus.

The Blue Bird Guest Bus sleeps up to four guests and includes a hot shower, toilet, covered barbecue and dining areas and a large net hammock. The bus is wired with electricity so you can charge your devices, and WiFi is included in your stay. The fully equipped outdoor kitchen is ideal for preparing delicious meals.

Meet Tarynn Lloyd

Haida Gwaii is a magical place with rich culture and history, and Tarynn Lloyd wanted to be able to share that with visitors in a way that was both meaningful and practical. It is what sparked her to start a tourism-related business, and she appreciates the fact that entrepreneurship means that "lifestyle and career can be one and the same."

The accommodations that Tarynn created for her guests are as unique as the islands themselves. It is also a testament to the resourcefulness that is characteristic of those who call Haida Gwaii "home." She gutted an old school bus and completely refurbished the inside, turning it into a one bedroom guest home. The Blue Bird Guest Bus is one-of-a-kind in Masset and Tarynn hopes its allure will draw visitors who will come to appreciate Haida Gwaii as the locals do. "I want to invite visitors to experience Haida Gwaii lifestyle and hopefully inspire awareness for this place and the threats imposed on it," says Tarynn.

Tarynn is fully immersed in the Haida Gwaii lifestyle. Much of it revolves around the outdoors. She enjoys food gathering and gardening. Her guests often get treated to fresh produce picked from her garden in the summer time. She also likes to cook, whether it's for her guests or for her family. Tarynn is also a ceramic artist with a studio on her property. Guests are always welcome to see her studio and watch her work.
