Meet Colin Stringer-Doane

Owner Colin Stringer-Doane has had a lifelong affinity with trees and wood. The forests and culture of Haida Gwaii drew him here 20 years ago. After witnessing the unsustainable logging practices and loss of value to log exports on the islands, he resolved to contribute to creating a better forestry model that prioritized the island communities and preserved the forest ecosystem. Chown Brook Sawmill strives to capture the maximum value from each log and retain it in the community.

In the future, Colin hopes to expand his business and support other local businesses to move the island communities towards a truly sustainable and prosperous relationship with the forest.
