Kelly’s Bakery

Kelly Rouble followed his dream in Mackenzie where he started Kelly's Bakery in 2012. "It was the next step in the evolution of me," he says of his venture into entrepreneurship. Owning and operating a bakery has given Kelly the opportunity to do what he is passionate about: baking. Not only that, but he also has the freedom to follow his own vision for his business based on his passions as well as on what the people of Mackenzie really need. Being in a small town, says Kelly, "you really get to know the customers and you can give them what they want." Unbound by corporate rules, Kelly can customize services and products according to demand, whether it's making an outrageously creative cake or bringing in local ingredients and products.

Living in a small town has numerous advantages that Kelly has come to appreciate. "No lineups," is one. The magnificent setting makes Mackenzie all the more appealing. "The whole area around here is so peaceful and serene," says Kelly, and it is rife with ways to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Kelly particularly likes spending time at or on the lake.

While it is always a challenge to compete with larger centres, Kelly is confident that Mackenzie businesses have more to offer the people who live here, particularly the ability to personalize their services and products. Kelly is happy to see the local business sector growing and is confident that Mackenzie has a bright future ahead of it.
