Meet Cindy Szekely
When Cindy Szekely came to Mackenzie 15 years ago, there were no formal yoga studios or yoga classes available. An avid practitioner herself and in the process of completing her 500 hour yoga teacher training, Cindy decided to start classes in Mackenzie. Within a few days of putting up posters, she had enough interest to launch two yoga classes. Her business has grown in the decade since those first classes. She offers a variety of classes throughout the year as well as workshops and even hosted her first international yoga retreat, "Embracing Body, Mind, Spirit" in 2014.
Cindy notes that yoga is more than just a business; it is a lifestyle. “It becomes a part of who you are.” she says, “and I wanted to share my passion with others.” Now Mackenzie has an amazing community of yoga enthusiasts. This passion is what motivated her to take yoga teacher training. Now she is also a teacher trainer and leads South Okanagan Yoga Academy’s 200-hour yoga teacher training program. However, what she is most grateful for is being able to learn, grow and share. She has had some amazing mentors and teachers throughout her journey.
Cindy also works as an employment and academic advisor for the College of New Caledonia in Mackenzie. Between her day job and her yoga business, she keeps very busy. However, she maintains her own regular yoga practice. Any spare time is usually spent with her family, which includes two sons ages 18 and 15. When she’s able to manage time off, she also loves to travel.
