Meet Lynn & Rodger Pattison

Meet Lynn & Rodger Pattison

Lynn Pattison has had a love for gardening for many years, realizing early on that this was her true passion. This passion has evolved over the last 11 years and has become not only a great business but a fantastic resource for the community.

"We offer helium balloons, unique giftware and fresh-cut flowers," says Lynn. "We have a 'balloon-stuffer' in the shop and anything that can fit inside a 4-6 inch space can be put into a balloon. It's a really neat way to wrap gifts."

"I love the freedom of being an entrepreneur,' says Lynn. "I get to go to work every day and do what I love. I have the choice of what I bring in for my customer and I like to be my own boss."

Being a small community of 4,000 or so residents means that everyone is connected in one way or another. It is this sense of camaraderie and familiarity that Lynn and Rodger appreciate, both in everyday living and in doing business.

"Community members are always willing to lend a hand to a fellow resident, even if it's someone they don't know well. When it comes to business ownership, the small community atmosphere makes it easier to get to know customers and to bring in products that are suited to the people who live here," explains Lynn.

Lynn says that the town itself is the true hidden gem. "A few months ago there was a lady who moved to Mackenzie from the city and told me that she absolutely loves it here. When I asked her what she loves about it, she explained that it's like going to the cottage every day; I like that analogy."

"Once Mackenzie is home, its home," Lynn explains. "Even the people who have been gone for over 30 years still refer to Mackenzie as home."

There are many benefits to living in a small community. Life is less hectic, the pace is casual, and you never have to contend with traffic. Plus, here in Mackenzie, the scenery is spectacular. It is the perfect environment for a gardener like Lynn, who spends a lot of time working outside in the spring and summer. "I've been here for 50 years," she explains, "and it will always be home to me. It's a really nice town to be part of."
