Meet Christine Drabik

Rosario's Restaurant is one of Kitimat's longest-running restaurants, and owner Christine Drabik attributes this to her wonderful customers who have been so supportive throughout the years. In fact, says Christine, many of her regulars are really more like extended family members. Whenever they come in it's like welcoming them into her own home.

This is not really surprising to Christine, who knows that the people who live in Kitimat are particularly neighbourly. "People watch out for each other here," she says, and it gives the community a safe, family-feel that big cities lack. She also appreciates the fact that Kitimat is compact. "It's great for getting from point A to point B in a timely matter. Traffic isn't an issue. and because places aren't far to get to you have the chance to do a lot more than the city." All of these things, plus the fantastic scenery, access to the outdoors and activities of all kinds make for an unrivalled quality of life in Kitimat.

Christine grew up in an entrepreneurial family. Her dad has been in the hospitality business since as far back as she can recall, and Christine often worked with him in her younger years. It was the best kind of preparation and training for the kind of work that she does now. One of the things she learned early on was how important it is to listen to your customers. Christine is very intentional about implementing the thoughts and ideas of her customers, and it is one of the biggest things that has helped keep the restaurant in business for so many years. Being able to make changes easily is one of the things that she enjoys most about owning her own business. Christine is also extremely proud of her staff at the restaurant without whom, she says, she could not have been successful.
