Meet Lloyd Hubbard
Meet Lloyd Hubbard
Lloyd Hubbard chose Kitimat as a place to start his business because he wanted Kitimat to be his home. He was drawn to its smallness and everything that smallness entailed: friendly people, ease of navigation around town and a feeling of safety and security. He appreciates that it has a casual, laid-back feel and access to important services and amenities even in its smallness. "It's a great place to raise a family," says Lloyd and adds that it is easy to keep on top of local events and maintain a pulse on what's going on. Plus, as an outdoor recreation lover, he was able to find many opportunities to do what he enjoys, particularly boating and fishing.
Of course, it doesn't take long to get to know people when you live in a town the size of Kitimat. Lloyd has met many locals since he first opened up shop in 1970. "I have a personal connection with our customers," he states. Friends and acquaintances become customers, and sometimes customers become friends, making doing business much more meaningful. Lloyd believes he has the best customers a business owner could ask for.
Operating his own small business was a dream and long-time ambition for Lloyd. Entrepreneurship, though never easy, has been rewarding in many other ways for him. It has provided him with the independence and freedom he longed for. It has always been a source of personal satisfaction as well, knowing that he and his staff have been able to provide a much-needed service in Kitimat. When his customers are satisfied and express their thanks, it always makes Lloyd's day. Plus, he has had numerous opportunities throughout the years to provide apprenticeships to electricians-in-training, who then went on to become journeyman electricians themselves. Being able to invest in the lives of young people is something that Lloyd is proud of.
