Meet Janette Robertson

Meet Janette Robertson

Janette Robertson and her husband have operated the Suskwa Lodge in Smithers Landing for decades. Although the Robertson's now spend their winters living in Granisle, they used to live at the lodge year-round. Being in such a remote location, Janette decided in the mid 1990's to take up sewing to pass the time in the winter. She took a sewing class teaching how to make down duvets, and when she brought home her first down duvet her husband promptly declared, "It's ugly!" So Janette and her husband came up with their own down quilt design, which Janette then put together, and a brand new hobby was born.

It didn't take long for Janette to try designing and creating other down items, like vests, slippers, duvets and pillows, and she eventually began selling them right from the lodge. As the years passed, Janette sold her down quilts in craft shows and other venues around BC. It always gives her a little thrill to think that her down quilts can be found in homes all over Canada and even beyond.

Today the Robertson's live in Granisle most of the year and spend summers at the lodge. Janette still likes to pass the time by sewing, and she sells many of her creations at the Crafter's Hut located in the Granisle Visitor Centre. She also works at the local school throughout the year. Janette loves the quiet, close-knit community of Granisle, the easy pace of life and the spectacular scenery.
