Founded in 2012 Bare Hands Landscaping & Design Inc. is an Accredited Landscape Horticulture Company through the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association with a long-standing Certificate of Recognition through AgSafe for it’s Industry Standard Approved Health & Safety Management System.
Bare Hands provides seasonal landscape maintenance and garden install services as well as design consultation in Fort St. James and Northern B.C.
Bare Hands recruitment and training program ensure all staff and apprentices are qualified and experienced to perform safe, efficient, and high-quality landscape services.

Meet Mel McCutcheon
Founder Mel McCutcheon is a Certified Horticulturist and Red Seal Landscape Horticulturist, taking on seasonal apprentices each year. Starting Bare Hands with a single bicycle trailer, Mel has grown her business to employ upwards of 15 skilled workers each season and take on large scale institutional projects.
Mel loves the freedom to create and design projects from the ground up, incorporating sustainable practices to bring her client's visions to fruition. Mel takes great pride in the installation projects her company undertakes and the quality services her business offers.
The inspiration for her business was home-grown on her family’s extensive vegetable and ornamental gardens in rural Nova Scotia. With over 20 years field experience, Mel leads her skilled team on projects big and small.
