Meet Ken Chan & Lily Li
Meet Ken Chan & Lily Li
Ever since Ken Chan was a child, he dreamed of owning his own business. He was able to make that dream a reality when he and his wife, Lily Li, purchased the Red Lion Restaurant in 2004. Ken admits that the first few years were rough, but he and Lily persisted. They changed the menu, put new and greater emphasis on customer service and worked hard at putting money back into the business. Within a few years they went from just surviving to receiving local recognition in the form of awards for their business and its service. The restaurant also continually rates highly on TripAdvisor and is ranked as the number one restaurant in the Chetwynd area. "I love to learn from failures," says Ken. "I love to make things better than others and I love to deal with people."
The Chetwynd lifestyle has been a definite positive in life and in business for Ken and Lily. Owning and operating a small town business means that overhead expenses are more manageable, leaving more money to put back into the business. They are currently doing just that with an expansion to the Lion Inn and Suites. They also support a wonderful community shelter that offers emergency beds and food to anyone in need, free of charge.
Besides a lower cost of living and doing business, Chetwynd is also a great place to make friends. Residents are open and friendly. Plus, there are many activities to participate in, both indoors and out, and the scenery is unbeatable.
