The bond that is formed between doula and mother often becomes a very deep and personal one. That personal relationship is amplified in a small town like 100 Mile House, where everyone knows everyone else. Relationships form more easily and naturally, making the connection between doula and client extra special. Plus, living and working in a small town means that Shannon will run into her clients and be able to see the babies she helped to deliver as they grow and develop.
It was Shannon’s own desire to have a doula-assisted birth that caused her to pursue doula training. “I wanted to hire a doula for the birth of my first child, however there were no doulas in my home town,” says Shannon. Having the support of a doula during pregnancy and delivery is extremely beneficial for both parents and baby, and Shannon wanted to see this kind of service available in her community. She feels proud and privileged to be able to serve local parents in this manner and to be invited to be a part of one of the most special times in a person’s life. Shannon was the first bereavement doula and placenta encapsulator to service the South Peace Region, before moving to the Cariboo.
Shannon appreciates the people of 100 Mile House, as well as it’s amazing setting. Surrounded by hiking trails, forests and rivers, it offers many ways to be active and get in touch with nature. When the weather in uncooperative, you might find Shannon indoors playing board games, doing a puzzle or reading a good book.
